Balloons over Burners

While Reno Burner returnees start inundating local feeds with their photos and videos of surviving a muddy playa, or dissecting false external perceptions of this year’s burn, other readers are complaining on how the transient types leave behind messes at local casinos and hotels (such as photo in montage here), not at all in line with their “leave no trace” behind mantra. The playa itself apparently is full of MOOP or “Matter out of Place,” owing to messy departures by many.
A more uniting festival of colors and freedom is that of the balloons over our blue skies this year, with readers enthusiastically sharing some of their own favorite snaps, with the big weekend liftoffs yet to come.
On our social media feeds there were also concerns this week that local media hadn’t initially covered the recent shooting near Shea’s, probably owing to the Reno PD’s slow announcement of an arrest and/or also to a Labor Day weekend slowdown effect. Several commenters raised the issue of whether media are quicker to report crime in less affluent areas than in Midtown, which would make for an important study .
