From Energy Shifts to Conversations about the Locally Unhoused
A recap of our weekly reporting content plus crowdsourced bonus content.
Reporting about a new ask from Nevada Energy prompted interesting responses from across our platforms.
“I still support clean energy generally but natural gas is a finite resource. Why this state isn't full solar already is a mystery to me,” a reader wrote on the now rebranded X. “And Northern Nevada has plenty of geothermal energy,” added another. “Too bad Nevada doesn't have things like sunshine or wind that could generate electricity instead of buying expensive fossil fuels,” Blue West wrote. Several others suggested also looking into nuclear energy.
Social media posts this week and articles related to Jacobs Entertainment, abandoned and lived in vehicles getting notices, refusing to stay at the Cares Campus and highlighting free haircuts on the streets led to spirited conversations about how best to help the unhoused. While some comments sometimes degenerate, the discussions do show how we all care and must do better to help our neighbors who are struggling.
As part of our “Fashionistas of Reno” and #keeprenorad focus, we featured a teacher using summer break to develop a new clothing brand. Our hyperlocal podcast interviewed another local podcaster, the voice behind Renoites. Scroll down to find those links, and thanks for reading our weekly Substack.
