Highlighting the Important Reporting Coming from the Nevada Current and Sierra Nevada Ally
A recap of recent reporting plus bonus content.
While we’ve focused most of our attention of late on social media posts, from documenting mudslides to dangerous speed racers, as our reach has grown on platforms such as Facebook and Instagram we’ve decided to use those to also showcase excellent reporting by two important regional media entities, the Sierra Nevada Ally and the Nevada Current.
Both allow the resharing of their important work with noncommercial Creative Commons licensing republishing guidelines.
Several of the reporters and team members for the Sierra Nevada Ally were former Our Town Reno reporters including Scott King, who helped us start the Share Your Story concept at the downtown library, and Richard Bednarski, who was tireless in documenting post pandemic motel destructions and early morning sweeps of encampments.
Two of the Ally articles we recently promoted were by Lynn Lazaro, another former Our Town Reno reporter and local media entrepreneur, who is looking into the difficult hiring environment right now for educated Gen Zers.
The Ally’s about page indicates its vision is “to revitalize the relationship between news media and the communities they serve through a collaborative approach that facilitates free access to high-quality, fact-based journalism and engaging multimedia content that informs and empowers communities across the Sierra Nevada to actively participate in – and contribute to – the democratic process.”
The Nevada Current which has its own unique way of looking at statewide issues says it seeks to “Demonstrate how policies, institutions and systems make life harder for Nevadans than it needs to be; Document how things got that way, and; Explore what it might take to fix them.”
As part of our goals of documenting the 775 in our own way to help make it a more caring and compassionate place we’ve been pleased to see that our highlighting of some of this recent reporting by these two great newsrooms led to stimulating commenting on our own platforms, making people debate and ponder how they view our area’s challenges and act upon the provided information to help with progress.
Here below were some of the articles we highlighted from the two organizations over the past week. For our own recent reporting, including this past week, please go to ourtownreno.com and delve through our News and Features, Keep Reno Rad section, Ideas for Progress and Citizen’s Forum.
