In and Hopefully Soon Out of the Davis Fire
A recap of recent Our Town Reno reporting plus bonus content.
With smoke harder and harder to find, containment rapidly increasing, power being restored and evacuation areas narrowing quickly, the worst of the Davis Fire is behind us, after the tireless work of firefighters and quickly changing weather conditions alleviated fears that Wednesday could become catastrophic.
We wanted to also thank all the citizen photographers, phone videographers and residents who shared photos and videos with us, as well as relaying information as to evolving conditions especially in the early days of the fire.
Our citizen journalists in this instance included Briana Gonzales whose video of a scary commute from Carson into Reno has been seen around the world now. Above a collection of photos she sent us, with her video from our TikTok in our recent reporting recap below.
Notwithstanding inane comments, such videos create more awareness for the fires here out West and their impact on our daily lives, from destroying our homes to week long evacuations for those living in red zones to repeated school closures for kids.
In the past week, we focused most of our coverage on the Davis Fire, with articles and numerous posts, essays, alerts, videos and photos across our social media channels, as that’s where people increasingly get their information.
