One of our social media posts this week on a city of Reno survey to establish cannabis cafes got plenty of interest.
Several commenters want to go further and have Nevada follow Oregon and Colorado in decriminalizing psilocybin, found in so-called magic mushrooms.
One reader wrote “micro-dosing psilocybin mushrooms helped get rid of my lifelong migraines, depression and anxiety, it’s truly a lifesaver.”
Concerning the pot lounges in Reno, another reader indicated the application process was already open, with non-refundable application fees filling government coffers, and applicants who made it through the paperwork process now waiting for the next step, perhaps involving a lottery.
In Washoe County, outside of city limits, The Venue at Sol Cannabis has already been given a prospective license to open a consumption lounge, which will be attached to its cannabis dispensary.
A prospective license has also been issued to a company known as TRNVP098 LLC to operate a consumption lounge in Storey County.
Once exact regulations are decided for Reno, such as hours of operation, how to have indoor smoking, making sure customers only consume on site, and how close these businesses can be to schools, it will be up to the state to hand out licenses, with expectations of up to eight cannabis consumption lounges initially in Reno. That could take a while as for now other early licenses are being handed out in southern Nevada which has moved quicker on this front.
