One Versus Six
On issues we follow closely, such as votes on the yet again delayed to mid May Nevada Cares Campus or the corporate welfare program suggested for themselves by the Jacobs Entertainment project, it has been repeatedly one versus six, with Jenny Brekhus all alone against other city council members, who have themselves relied extensively on developers and those closely connected to fund and run their campaigns.
On social media, we noticed a new surge of concerned residents begging each other to run for leadership offices, or to help each other if they do put their hats in the electoral ring, to make their campaigns more likely to succeed. So the question is, will we have more Wendy Stolyarovs and will they be able to win come 2022?
Speaking of leadership, Washoe County is looking for a Homeless Services Program Specialist. It would be nice if they could call this a Rehousing Services Program Specialist instead, but that’s a discussion for another Substack. Whatever the name of the position, though, who they choose will be crucial. Some in our community are good at drumming up publicity and making speeches at donation banquets or splashes on social media, but don’t we need someone with the ability to manage and help others, not just help themselves, their power, their stature? Washoe County, please choose this person wisely.
