Our Survey, Beadles Running Around the RGJ and Election (In)sanity

Democracy is alive, at least in terms of having people voice their opinions before public bodies in person. This was on display at the Washoe County chambers earlier this week as hours and hours went by, this time with public comment mostly against new proposed changes, which also finally went opposed at the decision-making commissioner level.
The Reno Gazette Journal had interesting coverage of Robert Beadles, and his crypto, local house buying ways, and more to the matter at hand his Operation Sunlight with “Enough” blaring on its website. A recent Operation Sunlight post or what it calls Beadles Bombs indicates: “SO WHY DO THE WASHOE COMMISSIONERS WANT TO KILL FAIR ELECTIONS? Lies have no legs, they need many other lies to carry them away from painful truth to painful truth. Before we start, please stop, put on your critical thinking hat, forget what the mainstream news has been programming you with propaganda-wise; once you do that, please begin to read.”
Equally bizarre though was the RGJ running a full page Beadles ad several days later, which executive director Brian Duggan now writes “contained a series of falsehoods that require a correction.” This actually gave the Beadles machine even more publicity. It also makes you wonder if the RGJ returned the money they were paid to run the ad in the first place. That was not addressed in the correction article which concluded with: “The Reno Gazette Journal will re-examine its vetting process for political and issue-based advertising to ensure such falsehoods are not published in the future.”
Much of local media, especially television news channels, depend greatly on competitive races for political ad dollars, so it will be interesting to see how this dynamic plays out for ad-dependent media going forward.
