Posts with some of the most traction this week included a write-up and photos on the Sak n Save on Silverada Blvd shutting down in a few weeks.
“So incredibly sad to lose such an affordable food option in the neighborhood right after they re-did the Oddie Corridor to make it so walkable,” one commenter wrote on Facebook.
“Many elderly travel on foot to shop here and once it's gone the only options will be Grocery Outlet or WinCo which is not close. There is a shortage of grocery stores in low income neighborhoods already, this is sad,” Mandy Dandy wrote.
Its parent company Raley’s says the Sak n Save, in an area with few healthy grocery options, was operating under a short-term lease and that the landlord exercised their right to terminate the lease.
We also posted about the Reno City Council approving a plan for resident-only paid parking in a neighborhood near Rancho San Rafael, despite concerns by councilwoman Jenny Brekhus this was privatizing parking.
“They should look for alternative ways for the students to get to & from campus. A more robust public transit system focusing on UNR (and a line to/from TMCC from the west of the TMCC campus, where it could connect to the one coming from the east side of TMCC ) would help. Instead they just finished building yet another parking garage. UNR is too car centric like the Reno Sparks area in general,” Eric Meagher wrote.
“UNR makes enough money. They can have free parking for their staff and students,” gt_rakun wrote on Instagram, while lrcscoville added: “UNR students and staff should have accessible parking at a reasonable fee, period.”
“I used to park in that neighborhood on Creighton Way,” another person wrote about the area which will now get permits. “Multiple times I was threatened by residents and told to move my car (which never remained there for more than a couple hours). My car was also keyed by one house in particular on the corner. Shame on people like that.”
