As we await for new student reporters in the fall, Our Town Reno enters into summer mode.
For us, summer is a time to recharge, while staying true to our collective spirit.
In the past week, we highlighted some of our former star student journalists with updates on the exciting careers they are pursuing, from local bilingual reporting to academia, drone storytelling and social media.
We currently have an amazing volunteer photographer Kia Rastar, who was on hand to document a recent UNR student protest related to uprisings in Bangladesh. Â
While Kia remains willing to go to noteworthy events, our staple of original features and articles will dwindle in the coming weeks, before our new fall roster of student reporters shape their own priorities and interest areas in local coverage. Â
In the meantime, while we are still keeping tabs on the uncertain fate of relocated Housing Authority residents, and local major stories from the drag queen story hour on hold to soccer fields in dispute, we more than welcome external contributions.
That can come in the form of sharing local videos or photos you find interesting, personal essays about northern Nevada issues close to your heart, a promotion of a local business, event or endeavor, a news alert or tip to uncover a matter you find worrisome.
You can also practice hyperlocal journalism under our guidance if you’d like to be published here, as so many of our student reporters have on their own journeys.Â
If interested we have a contact page here https://www.ourtownreno.com/contact, and you can always DM us on our Instagram, Facebook or X. Â
We are proud to be a local platform where young up and coming journalists and others can be heard and seen. That’s why we do what we do, to create opportunities for local storytelling and awareness, while hopefully making the Biggest Little City a better informed and more caring place.Â
