Thank you for Helping a Mom in Need and Our Mutual Aid Journalism Collective
Highlights of our weekly reporting plus bonus content.
A story about a mom facing homelessness with her three boys got a huge outpouring of support, advice and even financial donations. A leader of a local non profit also said there was a possibility the family could be sponsored through the end of the year with additional help.
This is the point of what we do, to create awareness, compassion and new local connections.
We wanted to thank readers for their immense generosity. Since going independent earlier this year, we’ve also received several donations via the ourtownreno Venmo, the credit card payment option on this Substack, and Facebook $2.99 a month subscriptions, which we are immensely grateful for.
This help allows us to keep the website going at ourtownreno.com. If you peruse through it, it has a treasure trove of features on those doing good and those struggling who want to be heard, a Keep Reno Rad section, a Citizen’s Forum and an Ideas for Progress category.
We still need more assistance to help pay for a roving street photographer and reporter, Dani DeRosa, who used to be unhoused and was recently jailed, but is now doing much better. Dani has been volunteering providing content which we reshare via the website and our multiple social media channels, mainly Instagram at BiggestLittleStreets plus the Our Town Reno Facebook, TikTok and Twitter. If you’d like to help us pay Dani a stipend for her work don’t hesitate to reach out.
