You’re Invited! Marking 10 Years of Our Town Reno with a New Documentary Premiere on April 15th
A recap our recent reporting plus bonus content.
Here are screenshots from a film we are currently finishing up called Seasons of Growth, which will premiere for free at an all ages April 15th event at 6:30 p.m. at the Holland Project.
The first to arrive will receive bonus related special edition 10th anniversary zines, currently on a local printing press.
The four protagonists of the 50 or so minute film, all #sheroesofreno, will also take part in a panel discussion on how to make the 775 a healthier and more caring place, an objective we set for ourselves when we started reporting about former motel residents displaced to the streets. We remember one unhoused man telling us he was a victim of the Teslafication of the local economy.
Our Town Reno’s first documentary called Invisible Girl was about a heroic young woman who was able to graduate from the University of Nevada and helped set up the Eddy House even though she started her academic journey without stable shelter.
This latest film is about a year long journey in growing healthy food and leading local mutual aid efforts. It focuses on how we can make a difference relying on our energy, intelligence and compassion, whatever the setbacks we may encounter.
The protagonists, Lily Baran, Katie Colling, Melissa Gilbert and Lyndsey Langsdale, share their behind the scenes thoughts and strategizing as they build incredible programs of local resilience.
After the film, they will be present to answer the community’s questions to inspire us even more on how we can all build a better present and future, whatever the headwinds here and elsewhere.
We’d love for you to join us, and be honored to meet in person, to share ideas, to ask questions, to make constructive suggestions, and together create a positive and reenergizing communal event.
